Cowboys Interviewing Coaches Despite Not Officially Firing Jason Garrett

Washington Redskins v Dallas Cowboys

Jason Garrett has been on the hot seat since last season, and after the Dallas Cowboys failed to make the playoffs, many people expected he would be fired at the end of the regular season. Instead, the Cowboys have been quiet about their plans at the head coaching position.

The team met with Garrett after the season ended, and has yet to make an official announcement that he has been fired. There were reports he was finished earlier in the week, but Garrett has reportedly been lobbying team officials to keep him around for one more season.

Despite not officially firing Garrett, the Cowboys have started interviewing his potential replacements. They recently met with former Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and had an extended meeting with former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy. The meeting with McCarthy went so well, he ended up staying in Dallas for an extra day.

Garrett's contract expires on January 14, so unless the Cowboys sign him to a new deal, his days in Dallas are numbered.
