The Bumper to Bumper COVID-19 Comfort Zone - 3/19

We start today’s edition of the COVID-19 Comfort Zone with a ray of hope. There are no certainties here, but could we be on the verge of discovering the first helpful treatment? Chloroquine, an old malaria drug, appears to be a promising possibility, as discussed by during a White House briefing this morning.

An infuriating story that appears to confirm much of what we talked about on Wednesday’s show: many of the kids are living in a state of denial, and thus they are now showing up in hospitals, which means that even though they are more likely to survive, they are taking up hospital beds from those less likely do do so.

We cited a shocking Wall Street Journal investigative piece on Wednesday, about significant mistakes made early by China government officials, and now there’s this, based on the Journal story and several others: Had Chinese authorities “acted three weeks earlier than they did, the number of coronavirus cases could have been reduced by 95% and its geographic spread limited.”

We also link to an excellent piece in the The Atlantic — not the Athletic, but the Atlantic — that includes an interview with Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health. “Collins is one of the most widely respected physician-geneticists in the world, who is deeply involved in containing the coronavirus pandemic.” This story is centered on COVID-19 concerns, but widens out to more human, and less technological issues. It even becomes a story about faith. Well worth your time.
