Former Alabama Head Football Coach, Nick Saban had some very critical words about the direction that college athletics is going under the new N.I.L. and transfer rules. He thinks we’ve lost the ability to truly develop young players into fully formed adults because all the focus is now on how much money they can make. Doug agrees that college sports is no longer about developing players. It’s become just another money-grab.
Doug Gottlieb: “I think what Nick Saban is saying is what so many of these coaches feel...I would love for there to be a way for real N.I.L. to exist but it doesn’t. It becomes pay-for-play. And what happens when you make something about money, it ONLY becomes about money. And not enough people have the long term view...”
